What a wretched man I am!

Based on Romans 7 & 8

I was once bound by the law. I knew the law, I knew what I should and should not do. But, I did what I should not do. As a child, if I was told not to do something… you know what I did.  I did it!  Why? You got it, because I was told not to do it.  That it is in our nature and we are bound to it.  Is the law sinful? No, but without it, I would not have known what sin was. I do not do the good I want to do, but I do the evil I should not do.

There is a war waging in me – in all of us.  Good vs Bad! Sometimes we become a prisoner within our own mind.  Paul, summarized it in this great way (vs 7:24,25):

What a wretched man I am! Who will rescue me from this body that is subject to death? Thanks be to God, who delivers me through Jesus Christ our Lord!”

You see, through Christ, the law of the Spirit gives life! The mind governed by the flesh leads to death, but those who live with the Spirit of Christ have a life of peace and hope through their faith.

I am thankful that Paul wrote this wonderful letter to Rome and he bravely shared his struggles. God’s word has been shared with us, to teach us to love as Christ loved. It starts with a call to have faith in Christ – my hope is that we all have a simple childlike faith and seek to serve… for when we help others, we share His love. Yes, I am wretched. But thanks be to God, through Jesus Christ our Lord!
